Yet Another IMBA Canada Staffer, en français!

Jérôme Pelland, based in Montreal, QC joins us this month as IMBA Canada's third part-time regional employee. A passionate advocate for many years and full-time trailbuider across the province, he has also acted as president and co-founder of the ADSVMQ, the provincial mountain bike advocacy organization, since 2004.

Pour toutes vos questions sur IMBA en français, Jérôme pourra vous aider! Stay tuned for the IMBA Quebec Rep Blog, coming soon . . .

Trail Development at Sentiers du Moulin, Lac Beauport, QC

Launched last year with 3km of volunteer-built singletrack, Sentiers du Moulin, in Lac Beauport, QC, will host the Subaru/IMBA Trail Care Crew September 27-28th. In the last few months, the group there received a $7,500 grant from MEC and another $10,000 through the Volet II program of the Natural Resources Ministry of Quebec. This money is currently being used to design the first official trail network in the old Capital region with the help of Provincial IMBA rep and ADSVMQ leader, Jerome Pelland. The TCC visit will teach local volunteers how to maintain the trails. For more information, contact Jerome.

Updates for Rules of the Trail

We've been receiving lots of requests lately for clarification on IMBA's , especially regarding guidelines for yielding and passing. With the proliferation of one-way, bike-only and downhill-specific trails, we've made a few adjustments to the language. The basics remain unchanged: mountain bikers should strive to be responsible, low-impact and friendly trail users.

Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day on October 4

IMBA offers support, schwag and publicity for clubs that host Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day events. This year's celebration will be held on Oct. 4, with help from , Smartwool, and the Ontario . Canadian clubs are encouraged to save the date and plan a kid-friendly event. Stay tuned for an opportunity to register your ride and post it on our new event website.

IMBA Canada Affiliate Club Insurance

The insurance climate in Canada is somewhat resistant to providing affordable general liability insurance to mountain bike clubs, and has been a real concern for many clubs across the country. IMBA Canada has been working very hard at finding a national insurer that clubs can afford and that doesn’t make it so difficult to comply with their terms that the clubs risk being uninsurable. The search has finally come good with Oasis Insurance out of North Battleford, Saskatchewan. As long as your club is an affiliate member of IMBA Canada you can take advantage of the group premiums which are a substantial savings over single policies. All of the forms are available at the -- just click on the IMBA Canada logo. For specific questions about these policies at Oasis Insurance.
