Yeti Cycles, the iconic mountain bike company with a cult-like following, has announced several pieces of technical MTB apparel for next year. And from what we saw at , you can bet there’ll be plenty of turquoise.

First and foremost, Yeti’s apparel designer wanted to reduce the number of features to the absolute minimum required for a given application. To that end, the company has created three “families” of products tailored to meet the needs of cross-county, trail and gravity riders.

The US$75 Teller shorts are lightweight, with a board short look and feel, and are intended for cross-country use.

The slim-cut Teller XC shorts

The US$89 Freeland shorts, intended for trail and all-mountain use, feature the usual assortment of features: stash pockets on the sides, vents in the front and a stretch panel in the back to improve mobility.

Yeti’s Freeland shorts

The US$105 Padroni shorts feel substantially lighter than comparable garments from other companies. They have an inch longer inseam (15in) than the Teller and Freeland, and boast a sewn-in mesh liner intended to reduce friction in the event of a crash.

The Padronis were developed with feedback from World Cup racers

has developed three levels of liner to complement these shorts. The inners will range in price from US$30-US$60, and will be available separately, allowing you to mix and match products to suit yours needs.

There will be a heavily padded liner for XC/endurance rides, and a lightly padded one for shorter rides and for those who prefer a minimal chamois. There’s also an unpadded liner for gravity riding.

The clothing should be available from early spring 2013.
