Lashings of carbon on new MRP chain guides

MRP's chain guides are so the onus with their latest single-chainring offerings has been on shedding weight.

The new G2 SL Carbon guide takes the and replaces the 5mm thick CNC machined alloy 'boomerang' backplate with a lightweight carbon fibre version.

This sheds a claimed 29g, with the G2 SL Carbon said to weigh 156g, compared to 185g for the original. Carbon doesn't come cheap, though - RRP is £199.99. The G2 SL Carbon is compatible with 36- to 40-tooth chainrings and is available in black or white. Fitting is via ISCG mounts only.

If you need the extra security of a full outer plate, the new S4 Carbon is based on the old System 3 Carbon but has new hardware and rollers. As well as a carbon backplate, it also has a carbon 'guide ring' (MRP are careful not to call this a 'bashguard').

Claimed weight of the S4 Carbon is 137g and RRP is £219.99. It's ISCG only and compatible with 32- to 36-tooth chainrings. Also available is the S4 Podium, which is identical except for a downgrade to a polycarbonate bashguard. This means it's heavier, at a claimed 173g, but significantly cheaper, at £164.99.

Riders who can't stretch to carbon haven't been forgotten about - MRP have a new S4 Steel guide with a steel backplate and polycarbonate bashguard that costs just £79.99. It's available in black or white, in ISCG (279g, claimed) and ISCG-05 (260g) versions.

In other MRP news, their lightweight is now available in white as well as black, for £115. For more information, visit (UK distributors) or .
