Hayes Radar disc brake - first look

Message par redplanet » Jeu Avr 24, 2014 3:17 pm

Hayes has unveiled its latest trail stopper, badged the Radar; it’s an affordable new hydraulic brake with plenty of practical features.

Coming in at a claimed 380g per brake, the Radar is aimed at cross-country and trail riders. Designed to be paired with any of Hayes’ L series rotors, there is a choice between 140, 160 or 180mm sizes.

The fresh-looking levers manage to separate the Radar from existing Hayes brakes yet the design still pays homage to Hayes brakes of old. The combination of a flip-flop lever design and split clamp at the handlebar should make these easy to install.

Talking of easy installation, the Radar also features Hayes’ Crosshair caliper alignment system, . Essentially it’s a pair of grub screws that provide additional adjustment for a quick, precise and rub-free install.

The Crosshair system uses the adjustment of two grub screws to quickly and easily install a perfectly aligned brake

The Radar uses mineral oil and is bled using syringes like many similar systems. Sintered pads are included but they’ll load from the bottom of the caliper only.

The Radar enters a crowded market with stiff competition, but it’s MSRP of just US$95 (UK pricing is TBC) should keep people interested. Stay tuned to BikeRadar for a full review of these.
